Thousands of primary aged children in Cumbria are set to benefit from a National Cycle Training programme thanks to funding from Active Travel England.
Children at primary schools across Westmorland and Furness have been walking, wheeling and cycling to school this week – for the Active Travel Feet First challenge.
Funding has been secured to improve pedestrian access to the town centre from a popular residential area of Penrith and make safety improvements to a well-known double mini-roundabout junction at the top of Sandgate/bottom of Fell Lane.
The Feet First 5 Day Active Travel Challenge returns this spring from Monday 23 March to Friday 27 March 2026, and schools across the county are invited to take part.
People are being invited to share their views from 9 February on initial design proposals for a new scheme aiming to make it safer and easier to walk, wheel and cycle through the heart of the Lake District.
